Session Terms
When you book a session with Applied Arcana, you're agreeing to these terms. They're here so we both know what to expect and so the time we share can be about you.
What a session is (and isn't)
These terms cover every private session I offer, both the tarot-focused offerings (readings delivered asynchronously through text or recording, phone readings, in-studio readings, or longer in-person tarot experiences, like Chrysalis) and the primarily conversational offerings (mentorship).
The service you get is the one described on its booking page on the day you book. You must be 18 or older to book a session or buy a reading. Phone readings may be with me or with another reader; the reader for your session will be listed in the about section of this website and made clear to you before you book.
Wherever these terms say "I," they mean whoever is reading for you.
My tarot readings don't predict your future or define who you are, and I don't promise any particular outcome. I approach the cards and our sessions with a sincere desire to offer an opportunity for reflection and any intuitive insights that arise. You are always at choice to receive the guidance or information that is presented, and you are welcome to conclude or redirect the conversation at any time. What you do with what we uncover is yours to steer.
I'm not a therapist, counselor, doctor, lawyer, or financial advisor, and nothing in our sessions is a substitute for this kind of professional specialization. If you need that kind of care, please seek it out. I'm glad to work alongside it. If you're in crisis, call or text 988 (in the US) or your local emergency number.
Booking, payment, and refunds
Payment is due in full when you book. Standing mentorship is paid in three monthly installments (see "For mentorship clients").
There are no refunds on sessions. When you book, you're reserving time that's held for you alone and can't be offered to anyone else. If you need to change our plans, either reschedule through your booking confirmation or give notice through email and we'll find a new time (see "Changes and cancellations").
If I have to cancel, you choose: a new time or your money back.
Changes and cancellations
With appropriate notice, I am happy to move each scheduled session once (standing mentorship works a little differently; see below). Inside the notice window, the session stands whether or not you come.
| Session | Notice to move it | Grace period if you're late |
|---|---|---|
| Phone readings | 24 hours | 5 minutes |
| Studio readings | 24 hours | 30 minutes |
| Chrysalis | 7 days | 30 minutes |
| Mentorship | 24 hours (standing clients: see below) | 15 minutes |
Grace periods. Phone & Studio Readings: Tarot readings are hard to compress. Past the grace period, with or without word from you, the session is forfeited. Chrysalis & Mentorship: if you’re running late, we’ll use whatever time remains. If you haven’t arrived or sent word by the end of the grace period, the session is forfeited.
Sessions start and end on time, even if they start late.
If the connection drops: If it fails on my end, I'll make up the time; if it fails on yours, the time still counts. I sometimes connect from a rural location where the signal can be uneven. If a call or session becomes unworkable, I'll offer you a time to finish within 2 business days.
Asynchronous readings. Once your order comes through, I'll pull your cards and send your reading within three business days (Monday through Thursday). You’ll receive an audio recording, an edited transcript, and a graphic overview of the cards. Because nothing is scheduled, there's nothing to move or cancel: once you've paid, the reading is final and non-refundable. The recording and graphic are yours to keep and revisit for your own use.
Privacy, recording, and the materials I share
What you share with me stays with me. I won't share it with anyone without your written permission unless the law requires it. The only exceptions are the services I use to run our sessions, and I can't guarantee their security. These include booking tools, communication tools, and transcription tools, upon request.
Client conversations may be aggregated and anonymized for educational purposes, with no names or identifying details, as described in our Privacy Policy.
I never record sessions in person. For phone readings, I may offer a transcript; I'll only make one if you say yes at the start of the call, and I may use a transcription tool to make it. Please don't record our sessions yourself without asking me first. I don’t record phone or video sessions otherwise unless you ask and I agree.
The spreads, cheat sheets, frameworks, and writing I share are mine. They're for your own use, so please don't reproduce, post, sell, or teach from them without my written permission.
For mentorship clients
Applications. The $5 application fee is non-refundable. I'll notify you about your application status within 10 days. I don't provide explanations for these decisions.
Scheduling. When you book with me, I'm reserving space just for you. That time is a mutual investment, and these policies are here to make sure both your time and mine are respected and protected.
Ad-hoc sessions. Sessions may be rescheduled once, for any reason. Give me 24 hours' notice and we'll move your session. Inside 24 hours, it's forfeited.
Standing sessions. Standing sessions run at set times, in three-month terms, paid in three monthly installments. By booking a term, you authorize all three charges.
Each three-month term is a commitment we both make, in honor of the work it takes on both sides to build a working relationship and integrate the output of that relationship, so there are no refunds once a term has begun.
When a term ends, you're welcome to sign up for another. Terms don't renew automatically.
Late cancellations. Life happens. Once per term, you can cancel and reschedule with less than 24 hours’ notice, no explanation needed.
Rescheduling. My hours for this work each week are limited, so please avoid rescheduling our standing appointments unless absolutely necessary. If you do need to change your appointment, you can use the scheduling app to move a session to any open timeslot with at least 24 hours’ notice. There’s no set limit per term, but I can’t create openings that aren’t there. If no spots remain, I’m willing to find a time outside my standard availability once per three-month term. Beyond that, sessions that can’t be moved into an open slot don’t roll over.
My availability. I'll tell you about planned time off at least two weeks ahead of time, and those sessions will be made up or credited. This may involve extending your three-month term. If I need extended time away, I'll tell you as early as I can, and either pause your term or refund the sessions that remain.
Between sessions. I dedicate a limited number of hours each week to delivering and administrating my one-on-one work. Most of that time is clustered Monday through Wednesday. You're welcome to email me between sessions. I'll respond to administrative questions within two business days; substantive questions will be addressed at the beginning of your next session. Email is the only channel between sessions, and I don't offer crisis support.
The fine print
Ending our work. A standing term runs its full three months. I may end any session or relationship immediately if you're abusive, threatening, or harassing, or if you don't pay. If I end things for one of those reasons, unused sessions aren't refunded. If I end our work for any other reason, I'll refund any unused prepaid sessions.
Liability. You're responsible for the choices you make. To the extent the law allows, my total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid for the session or term in question.
The rest. These terms are governed by Oregon law. If any part can't be enforced, the rest still stands. Your sessions are yours: they can't be transferred to someone else without my okay. I may update these terms; the version in place when you book is the one that applies to that booking.
